KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Republicans enjoyed an enormous day in Missouri's elections. And that has some experts suggesting Missouri may have finally shed its bellwether status to become a red-shaded state.
Republican Roy Blunt easily won Missouri's U.S. Senate race Tuesday. Republican Vicky Hartzler ousted 34-year Democratic Rep. Ike Skelton. Republican Tom Schweich (shwyk) defeated Democratic Auditor Susan Montee. And Republicans gained their largest majorities in more than a century in the state House and Senate.
George Connor, who heads the political science department at Missouri State University, said the elections put a "red stamp" on Missouri.
Missouri voters showed signs of trending Republican in 2008, when they narrowly chose John McCain over Barack Obama in the presidential election.
