COLUMBIA, MO. -- Update: Friday, Oct. 22 at 5:13 p.m.

As part of Mizzou’s homecoming festivities, the newly renovated MU Student Center was formally dedicated on Friday afternoon.

That’s also when school leaders unveiled a replacement for a long time Mizzou hangout.

A small bar and grill known as “The Shack” closed in 1984, and burned down 4 years later.

A new Shack will bring fond memories to alumni and create new ones for today’s students.

Cartoonist Mort Walker created Beetle Bailey at the original Shack.

The new $63 million MU Student Center has been open for business since the start of the school year.

The center used to be called Brady Commons.
