FULTON, MO -- Tuesday night we told you how Holts Summit police were looking into the possibility that an attempted abduction there was connected to, two other cases in Fulton.
Wednesday Fulton Police told KRCG the cases are not related, but gave us some disturbing details you need to read to keep your kids safe.
Two Fulton students both reported last week that they were approached by a stranger wanting to give them a ride as they walked home from school.
"Two of our students had been walking home from school and were approached by an adult in a vehicle attempting to have them get into the car. These were two separate students not walking together however they were in fairly close in proximity to each other," Fulton School District Kathy Wright said.
Fulton police said these cases are not related to an attempted abduction Monday night in Holts Summit, where a man grabbed an 11 year-old and tried to put her in his car.
“It's just a fluke that they both happened within a week of each other. That's what makes ours so much different than, Holts Summit's,” Fulton Police Dept. Major Roger Rice said. “In the Holts Summit's case the individual actually grabbed the child and tried to take the child into the car, which would be an abduction. This case they simply asked them to get in the car and there were no threats of any kind made. At this point he has committed no crime here."
Fulton police think they know who the man is who tried to lure the girls into the car in Fulton, and they've talked with him.
The man lives in Columbia he denied to police that he was in Fulton on the days in question.
Police said there is nothing they can do, because if you ask a child if they want a ride, it's not a crime.
"At this point he hasn't committed any crime,” Major Rice said.
Either way, the school district wants parents to be aware. They've sent a letter to parents.
"The letter was an opportunity to provide information to the families and to have them re-visit those types of conversations with their children at home,” Wright said.
Students are also being asked to immediately report any suspicious activity.
New Bloomfield and Jefferson City schools are also alerting parents.
Fulton police said they have sent the man's description to other local police departments, so they can be on the lookout.
Since police don't believe the man committed a crime, they won't release to us his name or the description of what his car looks like.
Meantime, in Holts Summit, police are still searching for the suspects that attempted to abduct the 11-year-old girl in Winding Hills Mobile Home Park.
They ask if you know any information about the attempted abduction to call Holts Summit police or the Callaway County Sheriff's Office
