MORGAN COUNTY, MO -- Update: Thursday, October 21 at 12:05 p.m.:
The owners of 22 dogs taken from a Morgan County residence may face charges.
According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies took the owners into custody and charges are pending.
The sheriff’s office said deputies went to the house because of a report of animal abuse. In addition to the 22 dogs taken from the residence, officials also removed 11 dead dogs. The sheriff’s office said the dogs died from apparent gunshot wounds.

State officials rescued more than 20 dogs from a Morgan County residence Wednesday.
Animal Care Facility Act officers from the Missouri Department of Agriculture worked with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department on the rescue.
They removed 22 dogs from the home.
According to the Agriculture Department, the owner was not selling the dogs.
