COLUMBIA, MO. -- Dozens of people gathered at the Columbia Public Library on Wednesday for a State Candidate Forum.
The event was sponsored by several organizations that support disabled people including The Columbia Disability Issues Coaltion, Alternative Community Training, The Boone County Family Resources Center and Services for Independent Living.
Local candidates for state representative seats answered questions about issues dealing with the disabled community.
“I think it’s really important," Services for Independent Living Director Aimee Wehmeier said. "I think it’s important for people with disabilities to understand the issues themselves and then as voters be able to understand the perspectives of the people who are making decisions on their behalf.”
The Columbia League of Women Voters will host another Candidate Forum at the Columbia Public Library Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Candidates in local state representative races as well as the race for Boone County Presiding Commissioner are expected to attend tonight’s Candidate Forum.
