SIKESTON, Mo. (AP) -- A southeast Missouri coroner says the death of a man who jumped from a bridge into a creek was an accidental drowning.

The Southeast Missourian newspaper reports the man was identified Monday as 32-year-old Chris Grindstaff of Sikeston.

Grindstaff jumped Sunday evening from a bridge at Old Appleton into Apple Creek, apparently for recreation. Several agencies began searching after a woman said Grindstaff did not resurface.

His body was found about 90 minutes later. Perry County Coroner Herb Miller ruled on the casue of death Monday.

Perry County Sheriff Gary Schaaf says there are signs at both ends of bridge noting that jumping is prohibited.
