COLUMBIA, MO. -- A Hickman High School student faces a charge of stealing in juvenile court after police caught her with seven stolen purses.
Authorities said the juvenile suspect stole the purses from seven members of the Hickman High School Color Guard.
The victims left their purses unattended in a school hallway near a practice area on Thursday afternoon.
The purses contained cell phones, wallets, cash and an iPod touch.
Authorities returned all of the stolen items to their rightful owners after finding the missing purses at the suspect’s home.
“We’re going to make an attempt to make sure that all of the items are secure in the band room," Hickman High School Principal Dr. Tracey Conrad said. "There are many students going in and out of there for a variety of different afterschool activities. We are going to take special precautions and make sure that personal items and items of value are secure.”
Authorities identified the suspect through a tip from one of the victims.
School officials said no one from off campus was involved with this crime.
