JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- He held the office for eight years, but that was more than two decades ago.
Now, George Hartsfield wants to be mayor of Jefferson City for a second time.
A former telephone company executive and YMCA president, the 67-year-old executive said he now has the time and energy for the job of mayor.
He told supporters at a Wednesday afternoon rally that he is bothered by a disconnect between the public and city hall.
"In some cases, there wasn't enough communications, public education, time given to let the process work,” Hartsfield said.
Hartsfield would not be specific about which issues he thinks have left city hall disconnected.
Thus far, only one other candidate has entered the mayor's race, current fourth-ward councilman Eric Struemph.
Current Mayor John Landwehr is term limited.
