MACON, MO -- Safety concerns have closed a Macon County bridge.

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced Thursday morning that all traffic has been halted on the Hoover Creek Bridge on Route Y.

The bridge is located approximately six miles east of Excello.

During an annual inspection, a MoDOT bridge engineer found an issue with the center bridge pier that needs to be replaced, according to a MoDOT press release.

MoDOT says structural repair crews will be start work as soon material and equipment arrive on scene.

The bridge is expected to be closed for approximately three weeks. During this time, MoDOT advises motorists to choose alternate routes around the closure.
