JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Lincoln University students arrived home Monday morning after their charter bus was hit by a car near Chattanooga Tennessee. It happened around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon on Interstate 75 in East Ridge.

16 students were taken to three area hospitals for minor injuries and were later released.

23 year old Esdras Chaves was arrested and charged with driving without a license, no insurance, and failure to maintain a lane. He's expected to appear in court Monday afternoon.

We got an update on the students from Lincoln University Spokesperson Misty Young.

She says overall the students are doing just fine, "Just some bumps and bruises but they are all feeling better, a little wear and tear on them but they're feeling much better. There was a second bus that picked them up and they got back about 5:30 Monday morning, so on top of scrapes and such they're a little tired but they are back on campus today."

The students were in Atlanta for a weekend football game and to see "Miss Lincoln University" inducted into the National Black College Hall of Fame.
