COLUMBIA, MO. -- Smokers will soon be banned from lighting up outside of the Columbia Public Library.

By a vote of 10 to 3, members of the Daniel Boone Regional Library Board approved the smoking ban on their Columbia property.

One exception allows library patrons to smoke in their cars.

Right now, a city ordinance allows people to smoke within 20 feet from any exit.

The new smoking ban goes into effect on Jan. 1.

Library Board Members are also thinking about a smoking ban at their locations in Fulton and Ashland.
