KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Authorities in Kansas City are trying to sort out the case of a 10-month-old baby girl found abandoned in a stroller on a street corner.

A note inside the stroller asked for someone to take care of the baby girl.

Police were called at 9:19 a.m. Friday to an intersection where the baby was found abandoned. Investigators soon located a woman -- not the baby's mother -- who had been taking care of the child.

Police say the caretaker appeared to be under the influence of narcotics when they arrested her. Charges had not been filed Friday afternoon, but were expected.

The baby was checked at a hospital and placed in custody of the Children's Division while the investigation continues.
