JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri's environmental director has resigned to take a job to help oversee a $20 billion fund for people harmed by the Gulf oil spill.
Missouri Department of Natural Resources Director Mark Templeton said Monday that he was resigning, effective Wednesday.
He will become the executive director of the Office of the Independent Trustees of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Trust. The fund was established by BP and is administered by two trustees.
Templeton joined the Missouri environmental agency in 2009. His tenure was marked by controversy over the handling of E. coli bacteria tests from the Lake of the Ozarks last summer. Templeton was suspended last year for more than two weeks without pay because of that controversy.
Templeton's is bein filled by Kip Stetzler.
