Later in Friday morning, the mother heard that school had been cancelled and called a friend's house where the children had been told to go if school ever let out early.
The kids weren't there.
The mom then went home and back to where she dropped off the children for the bus. When she couldn't find them, she called police around 9 a.m., according to Detective Tom O'Sullivan with the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies knocked on doors near the intersection of Lake of the Woods and St. Charles Road just east of Columbia. At one of the homes a resident said they had seen the children walking in the neighborhood.
The children were located just before noon. O'Sullivan said the two children had met up with students from another school that were ditching class and that they were never in danger.
