COLUMBIA, MO -- State incentives will give an economic boost to a Columbia company.

The Missouri Development Finance Board approved a plan Tuesday to fund 100 new jobs at Columbia’s 3M plant.

The money comes from state tax incentives.

3M’s plant manager Bill Moore said the financing package is complex, but will mean about $1 million in tax incentives over a 15 year period.

The plan is to re-tool parts of the plant to make more healthcare related products and flexible films that go on solar panels.

Moore said the average pay for the additional jobs will be $44,600 and the company is already advertising the positions.

Moore said 3M could add up to 120 jobs over a three year period.

The plant on Route B in north Columbia once employed some 1,200 people, but now has just 208.
