Mid-Missouri internet service provider, Socket Telecom, will get $24 million from the federal government to expand high-speed internet access in rural areas.
The money is part of an $82 million grant for Missouri from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Big River Broadband, Grand River Mutual Telephone Corporation, Windstream Corporation, and three smaller internet service providers will also get funds.
Nationwide, the USDA will spend $1.2 billion on the effort.
Gov. Jay Nixon plans to spotlight the grants during a visit to Cape Girardeau Thursday.
