AVA, Mo. (AP) -- A southwest Missouri man who was one of four people charged with killing a man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Douglas County Prosecuting Attorney Christopher Wade said 23-year-old Elvis Volner, of Cabool, was sentenced Monday for first-degree murder in death of 20-year-old Dustin Skaggs.
Skaggs' body was found in February 2008 in a water-filled quarry near Lebanon.
Also charged in the murder were Julia Volner and Dennis Volner, both of Hartville; and Benny Volner of Mountain Grove. Officials said Benny and Elvis are brothers, Dennis is a cousin, and Julia is married to Dennis.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that authorities believe the group killed Skaggs because he was dating Benny Volner's estranged wife.
