JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Gov. Jay Nixon has signed several bills into law, including one that could help Missourians make their homes more energy-efficient.

The bill allows cities and counties to issue bonds to help homeowners pay for energy efficiency improvements. Supporters say the funding source will help defray high initial costs of installing insulation, new windows and caulk.

Another bill signed Monday would allow Kansas City area voters to create a special taxing district to help the city's zoo.

Nixon has until the end of Wednesday to decide whether to veto other bills. Legislation that is not signed by then would go into effect automatically.
