JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton and others came to the Capital City Wednesday to get a look at the new federal courthouse.
Construction on the building began in December of 2008 on the site of the old state penitentiary.
It's suppose to be finished a year from now.
Contractors said they are ahead of schedule, with a little more than 60 percent of the construction completed.
The tour group was pleased with the progress.
"The whole staff is excited about moving over here.” U.S. Magistrate Judge Matt Whitworth said. “I think the community is going to really enjoy this building, and it's going to be a real landmark to service of justice in this part of the state."
The courthouse will have five floors, which include four court rooms, a security parking lot, grand jury suite, and many more offices.
The budget for this project was a little more than $60 million.
Contractors said the building has been designed to last at least 100 years.
