JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- It was a deadly extended 4th of July weekend for Missouri’s highways.
Missouri’s Highway Patrol said 12 people died over the holiday counting period from Friday evening to Monday night.
The highway patrol responded to 281 crashes, 139 people were injured in those crashes.
The highway patrol investigated six fatalities, St. Louis Department investigated two and the Kansas City Police Department investigated four.
Highway patrol also arrested 169 people for DWI. Last year troopers arrested 149 people for DWI.
Statewide last year, there were 1,251 traffic crashes, 11 deaths and 484 injuries.
