COLUMBIA, MO. -- Boone Hospital Center administrators and local community leaders got a sneak peek of the brand new Boone Family Birthplace Labor and Delivery Unit.

About 2,000 Boone Babies arrive at Boone Hospital each year.

Beginning Monday, these babies will be born into a new environment featuring the latest in patient care and family comfort.

Located directly above the current Boone Family Birthplace post partum area, the new Labor and Delivery Unit will have 16 patient rooms and a larger waiting area with more space for families.

“Our move really has two benefits," Boone Hospital Center Nurse Marlee Walz said. "The first of which is a more family centered atmosphere with much more calming, soothing colors. There are lots of amenities such as new tile, pull out couches and a lot of things. The second aspect is increased technology.”

The new birthplace unit features a parents’ pantry, calming artwork and a sleeping couch for the birthing partner.
