COLUMBIA, MO. -- Update: Monday, June 14 at 2:30 p.m.

Nowline was pronounced dead at the scene, a toxicology test will be performed to see if drugs or alcohol were involved.

The Boone County Sheriff's Department said that Nowline had a history of alcohol abuse.

A pedestrian walking along Interstate 70 was killed Sunday morning in Boone County.

The highway patrol said Leslie Nowline, 41, was walking on the centerline of the highway just east of Highway 40 and west of the Columbia city limits when he was struck by a car driven by George Day, 61.

In an effort to avoid the pedestrian, Day's car went off the highway and overturned in the median.

Day and his wife were taken to University Hospital with moderate injuries.
