JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- The Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster gets involved in the Google investigation.
Koster wants the company to provide information about any internet usage data it collected improperly from Missouri residents and has asked for details on any personal information gathered in Missouri by “Google Street View” cars.
Google has suspended the data collection and issued a statement of apology, claiming the recording of personal information was unintentional.
Koster wants more. He wants the records destroyed.
"We want a third-party administrator, a third-party auditor to oversee that destruction, not Google. And we want to make sure that Google does not profit from this data in any way that effects their financial bottom line,” Koster said.
The attorney general in the state of Connecticut is also investigating Google, as are officials in Germany and Australia.
Google has acknowledged gathering private data for its street view site in more than 30 countries.
