JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Update: Friday, June 4 at 4:27 p.m.:
Investigators said a 19 year-old Jefferson City man was high on mushrooms when he led deputies on a high speed chase and tried to run over a female deputy.
Shannon Custard is charged with felony assault of a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
Cole County deputies tried to pull Custard over for a traffic violation when he sped off.
When deputies finally stopped the car they said Custard punched the gas and rammed the passenger door of the patrol car, nearly hitting the deputy's leg.
Custard then ran away. Police caught up with him about an hour later.

Shannon Custard was arrested after a routine traffic stop by a Cole County Deputy turned into a chase along Commerce Drive and Highway 179.
The pursuit turned into a manhunt when the suspect struck a guard rail and the front bumper of the car.
After searching for less than an hour, authorities apprehended the man near the fast food restaurant Arby's and Mid-America Wireless.
