CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) -- Southeast Missouri State University will begin offering a four-year agri-business degree at its regional campuses this fall.

The program will be offered at campuses in Kennett, Malden and Sikeston.

Michael Aide, chairman of the university's agriculture department, says the degree program will emphasize row-crop production, which is the primary method of farming in the Bootheel.

The Southeast Missourian reports that about half the program's courses will focus on issues such as accounting, finance and marketing for agriculture.

Aide says the southeast region of Missouri lacks an agriculture education presence. He says the university believes the new program will offer economic benefits to every county in the region.
