COLUMBIA, MO -- University of Missouri Health Care officials celebrated the official opening of mid-Missouri's region’s most comprehensive orthopaedic surgery center.
Area dignitaries held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute.
Doctors at the state-of-the-art surgery center specialize in sports medicine, joint replacement and trauma care for bone and muscle injuries.
Specialists said the $55.5 million facility offers one stop shopping for orthopaedic patients.
“Your physician office visit is here," Executive Diector Deb Pasch said. "Your surgery can be done here. Your inpatient care is here, as well as your orthopaedic device and your therapy.”
“That makes it very convenient for them," MU Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Ted Choma said. "It also makes the care that we can give them that much better, when we have that ease of communication in discussing the care of our patients with the other practitioners that work here and help us take care of them.”
The Missouri Orthopaedic Institute sits about a block away from Columbia’s University Hospital.
When operations begin next week, about 200 physicians and staff will work in the new center that has 45 exam rooms, five operating rooms, a rehabilitation area and radiology services.
