JEFFERSON CITY -- Some people enjoyed the day saturday by adopting a new family pet.

The Jefferson City Animal Shelter and the Petco store on Missouri Blvd. teamed up for an adoption event.

Shelter volunteers brought in five dogs and four cats for adoption and half of them went home.

One of the dogs, Cleo, came in as a stray needing some help with her manners. She was placed in a program facilitated through the Jefferson City prison that allows inmates to help get the dogs ready for their forever home.

"A lot of people may not go to the shelter or don't know where the shelter's located and just gives us a little more exposure,” said shelter worker Christa Rhoads.

All the animals up for adoption are current on their shots and are spayed or neutered.

The shelter hopes to keep having adoption events like this one once a month at the store.
