JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Gov. Jay Nixon wants to develop a five-year plan that will expand Missouri's economy.
Nixon appointed four business executives Friday to help lead the planning effort. He wants them to recruit a broader steering committee that will work with regional planning teams.
Nixon wants to develop six to 10 objectives that pinpoint industries important to Missouri's economy, with specific steps to foster their growth.
The governor expects the planning process to be complete by the end of the year.
Nixon's announcement comes after Missouri lawmakers recently concluded their annual session without passing any economic development bills. Lawmakers are at loggerheads over rival proposals to expand business incentives and to scale back Missouri's existing tax credit programs.
