COLUMBIA, MO. -- More than 200 University of Misouri educators spent two days learning how they can become more effective teachers.

Experts, from across the country, held work sessions at the first Celebration of Teaching Excellence on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus.

MU faculty members, academic advisers and other teaching staff volunteered their time to attend the event.

Dr. Judy Willis was a keynote speaker and is an expert in brain research.

“Don’t believe what the grown-ups tell you because you can change your brain and change your intelligence," Willis said. "It’s totally in your power.  Genius is not in the genes. It’s in what you decide to do.”

Other topics at the event included classroom management, assessing student learning and teaching success.
