Update: Drunk driver crashes into house

Update: Wednesday, May 19 at 9:00 a.m.:

A drunk driver crashed into a South Columbia home. No one was injured, but the home has structural damage.

Boone County deputies said Monica Witherspoon, 21, of Columbia crashed a Volkswagen Beatle into the front of a home at 5735 Bethel Church Road.

Witherspoon was traveling westbound on Hoedown Drive when the car skidded through a stop sign hitting a vehicle parked in the driveway of the home, then crashed into the front of the house.

The residents inside the home were not injured, neither were Witherspoon and her passenger.

Witherspoon was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition and careless and imprudent driving involving accident.

Police and firefighters have cleared the scene of a wreck on 5735 Bethel Church Rd., in South Columbia.

Just before 4:00 a.m., a car jumped a ditch, hit another car, and slammed into the front of a house.

There is heavy damage to the home, but all occupants were safely evacuated. Police are still investigating what caused the accident at this time.
