COLUMBIA --   The potential dangers that surround prom night are prompting Columbia high school students to take action.

Hickman High School’s prom will take place on Saturday night.

On Friday, Hickman prom goers had the opportunity to sign pledge cards and a banner to show their commitment to celebrating prom sober.

The banner then will be displayed at prom to remind students of their commitment.

Hickman High School Student Kristi Stringer said, “If we can draw enough people, it will counter act all of the peer pressure.  They will see that there are more people out there who will like to stay safe during prom season.”

Some students who pledged to stay sober at the Hickman High School prom received gift cards and other prizes.

Next week, Columbia Rock Bridge High School students will do the same thing to help promote a safer, sober prom.
