JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Charities that benefit from state tax credits have united against Gov. Jay Nixon’s push to curtail the incentives.
Representatives of crisis pregnancy centers, children's agencies, domestic violence shelters and Catholic charities have teamed up to tout the benefits of tax breaks for benevolent organizations.
They said tax credits for donors can double the money that charities bring in.
Nixon said tax credits are taking money out of the budget, money that otherwise could go to education.
He wants lawmakers to reorganize the state's tax credit programs and cap the total amount of credits that can be authorized annually.
