JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri House members have endorsed a new tax on health insurers.
The legislation would force Medicaid managed-care companies to pay a tax on their insurance premiums. The companies could add the tax to the expenses for which they get Medicaid reimbursements from the state and federal governments.
The tax could generate about $15 million a year in state revenue.
House members approved the tax provisions Wednesday as part of a broader bill on Medicaid and in-home health care. The bill now goes back to the Senate.
Some Republican senators have balked at the tax proposal and plan to oppose it.
