JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- A former staffer who sued Gov. Matt Blunt has filed to run for the U.S. House seat being vacated by the former governor's father, Roy Blunt.

Scott Eckersley filed Tuesday as a Democrat for the 7th District Congressional seat in southwest Missouri. The Blunts are Republicans.

Roy Blunt is not seeking re-election to the seat because he is instead running for U.S. Senate.

Eckersley settled a lawsuit last year against Matt Blunt and other members of his gubernatorial administration. The suit alleged Eckersley was defamed and wrongly fired after questioning the e-mail deletion practices in Blunt's office.

The state paid Eckersley and his attorneys $500,000 but the settlement included no admission of wrongdoing.
