PLEASANT HOPE, Mo. (AP) -- Greene County authorities say they found a 63-year-old woman and 58 animals living in "deplorable" conditions at a home south of Pleasant Hope.

Deputies were serving a search warrant Monday at what they thought was an abandoned home when they found the woman and the animals.

Greene County Sheriff's Capt. Randy Gibson says he couldn't find the words to describe the conditions at the home.

With help from the Missouri Humane Society in St. Louis, deputies removed 58 animals, ranging from dogs and cats to hamsters.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that the woman at the home was arrested on suspicion of felony animal abuse and booked into Greene County Jail.
