JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Gamblers at Missouri casinos would be able to use their tokens to buy food and drinks under a bill advanced by the Missouri Senate.

The Senate gave the measure first-round approval Monday on a voice vote.

Current law prohibits exchanging game tokens or chips for food or beverages. The chips must first be changed into money.

Republican Sen. Jim Lembke of St. Louis said his bill would lead people to spend more on drinks and food while gambling, which he said will create more tips for employees.
