SEDALIA, Mo. (AP) -- Several events are planned this year along the Katy Trail as the nation's longest rail-trail reaches its 20th anniversary.

The Sedalia Democrat reports that celebrations will begin with a kickoff event planned for May 8 at the trailhead in Rocheport. That was the site of the official opening ceremony for the first segment of the Katy Trail in 1990.

Other anniversary plans include a special ticket book program. It will encourage people to visit every community along the trail for special prizes and incentives.

There also will be special exhibits at key trailheads providing a brief history of the trail.

The Department of Natural Resources says about 300,000 hikers and bicyclists use the trail every year.
