JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Some state senators say they need to make it easier for Missouri employers to fire people before new jobs can be created.
Several Senate Republicans have told The Associated Press some companies are afraid to move to Missouri because of court rulings that altered the burden of proof in job discrimination lawsuits.
But that viewpoint is not shared by all Republican lawmakers, nor by Democrats.
Legislation making it harder to win employment discrimination cases has stalled in the Senate. Similar bills have been offered since 2006 but have not gained much traction.
