KANSAS CITY, MO. -- A donation of 20 tons of food was made to Kansas City’s largest food pantry Harvesters on Thursday.

“We’re very excited to have this healthy food to be able to distribute to feed hungry people here in our area,” Harvesters Karen Haren said.

The food was donated by Seneca Foods, a manufacturer of Libby's canned fruits and vegetables. The company is donating five million pounds of food to pantries affiliated with Harvesters across the country.

Harvesters will donate the food in 26 county service areas in northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas.

The community food network has been helping people in need since 1979. In 2009, Harvesters distributed over 36 million pounds of food and household products.
