KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Travelers embarking on some Southwest Airlines flights out of Kansas City International Airport will be facing a new layer of security starting next week.
Local Transportation Security Administration director John Della Jacono says the Kansas City airport is one of the first 11 nationwide installing full-body scanners this month.
He says all passengers can choose to either walk through the screening system or be patted down separately before boarding an airplane.
At a news conference at the airport Tuesday, Della Jacono acknowledged privacy concerns about being screened by a system that sees through their clothes. But he says safeguards are in place to create anonymity of passengers.
The equipment was bought with federal stimulus funds.
