LaTrise Wilson and her daughter will move in this fall
JEFFERSON CITY -- Members of the Jefferson City community came together Saturday to dedicate a Habitat for Humanity house for a deserving family.
It's just four walls, a roof and some windows. But to LaTrise Wilson and her three-year-old daughter Myla, it's home.
"My family's very excited and I am very excited,” Wilson said.
Their new house is tucked in a quiet neighborhood behind Washington Park. It's been in the works for several months and almost everyone at the dedication helped make it happen. Wilson herself rolled up her sleeves at the site, helping to built her home and another one like it across the street.
"I'm helping my neighbors and my neighbors help me and it works out really well,” Wilson said.
Wilson's family says it couldn't have happened to a better person.
"I'm just so thankful that she is blessed and Myla is blessed to have a home,” Lelia Mason, LaTrise's aunt, said. “Something they can call their own. That's priceless."
"This is a big deal for me,” Wilson said. “Home ownership is your piece in the world."
The house won't be ready until the fall. In the meantime, Wilson is content to sing the praises of everyone who helped along the way.
"This is a good place to be,” Mason said. “That love is here. It's here."
A recycling program helped build Wilson's house and others like it. If you'd like to get involved, contact Carol Scott or Rayma Grohs at the local Habitat for Humanity office at 573-635-8439. Or you can contact them via email info@rivercityhabitat.org
