CARTHAGE, Mo. (AP) -- A southwest Missouri man has pleaded not guilty in the death of his 8-month-old son.

The Joplin Globe reports that Eddie Salazar Sr. of Carthage entered the plea Thursday via a video link from Jasper County Jail in Carthage, where he is in custody.

The 29-year-old Salazar has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 8-month-old son, also named Eddie Salazar.

Salazar at first told police that masked men had beat him and abducted his son on Feb. 4.

The infant's body was discovered Feb. 6 in a river east of Carthage.
