JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri schools are getting notice of how much they stand to lose because of a shortfall in state revenues.
Gov. Jay Nixon said last month that the state cannot afford to provide a $43 million midyear funding boost called for under the school financing formula.
But the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education says many schools had counted on that money. The department released a memo Wednesday informing schools the funding shortfall could result in a 2 percent reduction in what they otherwise would receive. The memo details what that means in dollars for each school district.
But those reductions may change. The House Budget Committee voted Wednesday for a different plan that would exempt some schools from cuts and result in larger reductions for others.
