COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- The crowded contest to succeed Darwin Hindman as Columbia mayor includes one candidate voters surely won't mistake for a traditional politician.
Eastside Tavern owner Sal Nuccio wears a leather jacket and nose ring. He ties his hair in a ponytail and has several tattoos. The 42-year-old New Jersey transplant says he brings a common man's approach to city politics.
Nuccio, along with Bob McDavid, Jerry Wade, Paul Love, Sid Sullivan and Sean O'Day, are vying to succeed Hindman, the longest serving mayor in Columbia's history. He was first elected in 1995 and steps down in April.
The nonpartisan election is April 6.
