CARTHAGE, Mo. (AP) -- Jasper County's prosecutor says it could be two weeks before he decides whether to charge a southwest Missouri man with killing his baby.

The body of 8-month-old Eddie Salazar Jr. was found Saturday wedged against a tree on the bank of the Spring River near Carthage. Two days earlier the boy's father, Eddie Salazar Sr., told police two masked men had knocked him out and taken his son.

But police say Salazar eventually admitted making up the story about the abductors, and a tip led them to the child's body.

The Carthage Press reports that Prosecutor Dean Dankelson says he is waiting for results of an autopsy before filing any charges. In the meantime, Salazar is being held in Jasper County Jail on the false report charge, with bond set at $100,000.
