COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri NAACP wants state utility regulators to reduce what it calls an "unfair gap" in rates charged to industrial power users compared to residential customers.
The move is a response to a request by an industry lobbying group that the state Public Service Commission raise residential rates and lower rates for industrial customers. The commission is considering a rate increase by AmerenUE of roughly $402 million.
Ameren residential customers currently pay roughly 7.7 cents per kilowatt hour, more than twice the rate paid by the utility's large transmission customer.
