COLUMBIA -- Columbia police are looking for the person or persons who stole several wheels and tires from a car dealership over the weekend.

Someone stole wheels and tires from Bob McCosh Chevrolet, formerly Perry Chevrolet, on Business Loop 70.

Investigators said the wheels and tires stolen from five Chevy Tahoes and three Chevy Avalanches are worth more than $21,000.

The same type of theft happened back in November at a Joe Machens dealership on Vandiver Drive, when someone stole $24,000 worth of wheels, tires and bolts.

“We have our officers out making contact with the dealers to let them know this is happening, number one," Columbia police officer Jessie Haden said. "We’re giving them a heads up. We’re also sharing some security advice with them and take a look at their lots with them. Make sure all of the lights are functioning and they are functioning properly and at their best capacity.”

Investigators said similar car lot thefts have recently happened in the St. Louis Metro area.

Police urge anyone with any information about these thefts to call Crimestoppers at 875-TIPS.
