JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri House Majority Leader Steven Tilley is proposing new political ethics rules, including restrictions on lobbyists.
Tilley's legislation is the most recent in several ethics measures proposed for the session starting Jan. 6. The ethics push comes after six current and former Missouri lawmakers were charged with crimes this year.
In Tilley's legislation, lobbyists could no longer give meals and gifts to individual lawmakers, and lawmakers would need to wait 180 days after leaving office before taking gubernatorial appointments or becoming lobbyists. Governors would be barred from accepting campaign donations from those with business before an executive branch agency.
Tilley, a Republican from Perryville, says ethics changes will increase accountability and improve faith in government
