JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A Missouri group backing eminent domain initiatives says it has evidence opponents are wrongly trying to delay its petition drive.
Missouri Citizens for Property Rights has proposed a pair of 2010 ballot measures to prevent a person's property from being condemned for private development. An appeals court is to hear a challenge to the ballot summaries Tuesday.
In a court filing Monday, initiative sponsors produced an audio recording of a November attorneys' association meeting. A lawyer for a firm representing the Missouri Municipal League can be heard saying that the lawsuit's "main objective is to delay the gathering of signatures."
The property rights group claims that violates attorney conduct rules. The Municipal League denies its goal is obstruction.
