The St. Louis company that makes the holiday must-have robotic Zhu Zhu pet hamsters is defending itself against claims the toys are unsafe.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is currently reviewing and testing the Zhu Zhu pet toys after a San Francisco-based consumer group called Good Guide said it found a higher-than-allowed level of chemical called antimony in the toys.

Antimony is a metal used as a flame retardant in the toy.

The Good Guide group assigned the toy a rating of 5.2 on a 10-point scale.

The toy's maker, St. Louis-based Cepia LLC, insists their product is safe and has passed rigorous testing by an independent company.
